Life and Loss

Counselling for Aging and Older Adults

Later life brings real losses and real freedom, often in the same week.

Who this is for

Older adults navigating retirement, health changes, the loss of a partner or friends, changing independence, family dynamics, or the question of what this stage of life is for. I have worked with people into their eighties.

Signs you might recognize

  • Loss of purpose after leaving work
  • Grief that keeps accumulating as friends die
  • Frustration with a body that will not do what it used to
  • Feeling like a burden to your family
  • Loneliness after a move or a bereavement
  • Unfinished business from earlier decades surfacing now

How I adapt sessions

Pace is slower and there is more room for life review, which is valuable work rather than digression. Sessions can be in person, by video, or on a walk outdoors if that suits you better than a room. Family members can be involved where you want them to be, with your consent, and I am clear about what remains yours alone.

What to expect in sessions

Sixty minute sessions at a frequency that fits your energy and your schedule.

Getting started

What to expect

  1. 01

    A free 15 minute consultation

A short call to hear what is going on, answer your questions, and see whether we are a good fit. No pressure either way.

  2. 02

    Your first session

Sixty minutes to lay out the situation in your own words. We get clear on what matters most and what you want to be different.

  3. 03

    Ongoing work at your pace

We settle into a rhythm that suits you, weekly or spaced out, in person on the Sunshine Coast or by secure video anywhere in BC.

If any of this sounds like where you are right now, the next step is a free 15 minute consultation. No pressure, no commitment, just a conversation.
