Life and Loss

Grief and Loss Counselling

There is no correct order to grief, and no deadline on it.

Signs you might recognize

  • Waves that arrive without warning months later
  • Guilt about what you did or did not do or say
  • Feeling like you should be further along by now
  • Anger that surprises you
  • Difficulty being around people who have not lost anyone
  • Relief mixed with sorrow, and shame about the relief

Losses that are not deaths

Grief is not reserved for bereavement. The end of a marriage, a diagnosis that changes what your body can do, the loss of a career or an identity, estrangement from a child, the version of the future you had planned: all of these are real losses, and they are often grieved alone because nobody sends a card. I treat them as grief, because that is what they are.

My approach to this work

I do not use stage models as a map you are supposed to follow. I follow you. Some sessions are for telling the story again, some are for practical survival, and some are for meaning, which is where existential work often becomes useful.

What to expect in sessions

Sixty minute sessions, in person or online. Frequency is yours to set. Some people want weekly contact early on, others want a steady monthly anchor over a long period.

Getting started

What to expect

  1. 01

    A free 15 minute consultation

A short call to hear what is going on, answer your questions, and see whether we are a good fit. No pressure either way.

  2. 02

    Your first session

Sixty minutes to lay out the situation in your own words. We get clear on what matters most and what you want to be different.

  3. 03

    Ongoing work at your pace

We settle into a rhythm that suits you, weekly or spaced out, in person on the Sunshine Coast or by secure video anywhere in BC.

If any of this sounds like where you are right now, the next step is a free 15 minute consultation. No pressure, no commitment, just a conversation.
